#Orcaflex examples how to
There are a lot of educated people with degrees, some advanced, who believe that all which is needed for an engineering analysis is running computer software, and the only knowledge which is required is how to enter input. I have to disagree with gonzo about the uneducated people. I should have added a smilely face which I'll do. You may find this convenient if you wish to run your software on various different machines, but want to avoid setting up a server and licence manager or don’t have full-time network access.Daiquiri understood my attempt at humor. This will allow you to move a local licence between the different machines quite easily, using OrcaLicense to deactivate it on one machine and then activate it on another.

Note that you can install this local setup, and OrcaFlex or other software, on multiple machines if you wish. See the OrcaLicense help on licence activation, either from OrcaLicense or online, if you need more information on this. When you have completed the installation, run OrcaLicense to activate your FlexNet licences with the activation ID you have been given. This will launch (sequentially) an installer for the licensing service and for OrcaLicense.

To set up a local licence, download the FlexNet local setup, extract all the files from the downloaded zip, and run Setup.exe. Setup requirements are minimal in this case, you simply need to have the licensing service and OrcaLicense (Local edition) installed and running to be able to activate and use a licence. The FlexNet local setup contains the components you need to set up FlexNet local (node-locked) licensing for your Orcina software. You would usually activate your local licence on the machine on which your Orcina software (such as OrcaFlex) is installed. Local licences (also known as node-locked licences) may only be used on the machine on which they have been activated – they are locked to that node.
When you have activated your licences, start the licence manager – see the OrcaLicense Licence server help topic for details on this. See the OrcaLicense help (also available online) for more information on licence activation. When you have completed the installation, run OrcaLicense on the server to activate your FlexNet licences with the ID you have been given. Further details are in Installation Guide.pdf in the server pack. This will launch (sequentially) an installer for each of the required components. To install the required server components, download the server pack, extract all the files from the downloaded zip, and run Setup.exe on the licence server machine. The server may be virtual or ‘in the cloud’, but it must be persistent and not routinely created and destroyed.
Hardware requirements are minimal – the licence manager lmadmin (formerly known as FlexLM) is not generally demanding of resources.

Server requirements: Windows Server 2016 or later, or Windows 7 SP1 or later (though a server-based OS is recommended), either 32- or 64-bit. In addition, it contains a client pack containing the licensing components for each client which will run the software.
The FlexNet server pack contains all the components you will need to set up a FlexNet licence server for your Orcina software. They can also be ‘borrowed’ from the server in order to have a licence available without network access (for a trip offshore, for example). Floating FlexNet licencesįloating licences ‘float’ on a network, and can be used by any client machine on the network which is set up to access them. If you later wish to change it you must contact us to arrange to exchange it for the other type. You cannot switch your licence type yourself: you will be asked which type you require before we set up your licence(s). You enter this into OrcaLicense’s activate facility to download (automatically and securely) the corresponding licence information and have it saved it to your own machine or server, thus activating your licences.įlexNet licences come in two different sorts: floating (on a network) and local (commonly known as node-locked). To enable your FlexNet licences, we send you an activation ID. FlexNet licensing is available for OrcaFlex from version 11.0 onwards. FlexNet Publisher (formerly FLEXlm) is a software-based licensing system which does not need any hardware device such as a dongle instead, licences are stored on either your machine or on a server to which you have network access, in a protected area of storage.
